Infants

Our infant classrooms, separated into two classrooms (Infant and Older Infant) create a stimulating and engaging environment that keeps children from 4 months to 18 months happy, healthy and constantly entertained, in an academically building atmosphere.

Although academics are not introduced until the Toddler class, infants begin to get introduced to story time, sing-a-longs, color recognition and free artistic expression throughout their day. While keeping infants in a consistent and well-balanced schedule including feedings, play, naps and socialization, infants grow from a world of full dependence to a world of approaching independence where they are prepared for academics in the Toddler year. Infants will be cared for using a fine balance of hands-on teacher to student play and movement along with floor/mat time allowing each infant to explore their classroom safely and to get to know their friends in a structured and curious environment.

The Benefits of Early Learning in an Infant Program

The first months of life are filled with rapid growth, curiosity and connection. Choosing the right school for infants can give families reassurance while supporting development through responsive care and age-appropriate experiences. At The Brunswick School, the infant program offers a warm, engaging environment where children begin building emotional security, physical skills and early social awareness.

Infants are not expected to take part in formal academics, yet learning unfolds naturally throughout the day. Story time, music, sensory activities and movement introduce language, sounds and patterns in ways that feel playful and familiar. These experiences help infants explore their surroundings while becoming comfortable with the rhythm and flow of a daily routine.

Consistent scheduling plays a meaningful role during this stage. Regular patterns around feeding, rest and play help infants feel settled and supported as they begin moving from full dependence toward early independence. Teachers closely observe each child and adjust activities to meet individual needs, allowing exploration to happen at a comfortable pace within a safe, supervised setting.

Families often choose our infant school for its attentive caregiving, small classroom groupings and experienced educators. Infant classrooms are thoughtfully arranged to encourage safe movement, floor exploration and early social interaction. Through shared play, children begin noticing and engaging with peers, laying the groundwork for group learning well before transitioning into the Toddler program.

Open communication is another aspect families value. Caregivers regularly share updates about daily routines, activities and milestones, helping families stay connected to their child’s experience. This ongoing exchange supports consistency between home and school during an important period of growth.

Parents also appreciate that the infant program is part of a larger, cohesive school community. Remaining in a familiar environment as children grow can ease future transitions and support emotional comfort. Early exposure to classroom routines, group interactions and caregiver guidance encourages adaptability as infants move through developmental stages.
